- A rare tree of ancient woodland it has spectacular autumn colour and grows well in the shade
- It has deep lobed green leaves, creamy white flowers in the spring and brown fruit in the autumn known as chequers
- Is berries provide important food for birds and the flowers many insects
- Mature height 12 metres
- A good choice for woodland, shelter bed, field edge and rewilded landscapes
