Sorbus aria (Whitebeam)
A native British tree
- A medium sized tree growing on chalk and limestone soils but will tolerate other soils
- It has dark green leaves with a distinctive white hairy underside , creamy white flowers in the spring and attractive red berries in the autumn
- It tolerates both coastal areas and urban pollution
- Its berries provide important food for birds and the flowers many insects
- Mature height 12 metres
- A good choice for woodland, parkland, urban settings and rewilded landscapes
