- Grows best in areas of higher rainfall in deep - well drained clay and loam soils
- Can grow to a 1000 years old and can support a wide range of insects and wildlife
- Its branch habit being more open allows light to reach the forest floor supporting a rich ground flora
- Mature height 22 metres
- A good choice for coastal locations, parkland, woodland and an important timber tree
