A native British tree
- A small fruiting tree that grows well on a range of soils
- Early white flowers in the spring and produces small gritty pear fruit in the autumn
- It has a spindly habit and the dark brown bark is often cracked in plates
- The flowers attract insects and the fallen fruit birds and other mammals
- Mature height 12 metres
- A good choice for hedgerow, woodland, field edge and parkland
