A native British tree

  • A prominent tree on chalk and limestone soils preferring any reasonably fertile well drained soils but not heavy clay or sand
  • A large tree and supports a wide range of invertebrates and wildlife
  • Beechmast is good source of food for small mammals and pigs
  • It has fine bright green foliage in the spring and retrains its foliage in winter
  • Mature height 22 metres
  • A good choice for parkland, woodland and forestry and excellent hedge for formal gardens
