Fagus sylvatica (Beech)
A native British tree
- A prominent tree on chalk and limestone soils preferring any reasonably fertile well drained soils but not heavy clay or sand
- A large tree and supports a wide range of invertebrates and wildlife
- Beechmast is good source of food for small mammals and pigs
- It has fine bright green foliage in the spring and retrains its foliage in winter
- Mature height 22 metres
- A good choice for parkland, woodland and forestry and excellent hedge for formal gardens
